In the quiet community of Chesterfield, just south of Richmond, Virginia, a deeply unsettling event shattered the peace on November 18, 2022. On that day, 13-year-old female Kaelyn Parson was found tragically deceased in her home. The grim discovery was made after her mother, 39-year-old JoAnna Cottle, placed a desperate 911 call to report a possible intruder at their residence on Laurel Oak Road.
Responding to the distressing call, Chesterfield County police officers arrived at the
scene to a horrific sight. Inside the home, they found not only Kaelyn but also her mother and her two younger siblings, 4-year-old twins Kinsey and Jayson Cottle, all of whom had been fatally shot. The promising life of a young teenager, along with those of her family, had been abruptly and violently cut short.
The investigation into the quadruple homicide quickly led authorities to a suspect. Jonah Adams, the 35-year-old former boyfriend of JoAnna Cottle and the father of the twin toddlers, was identified as the alleged perpetrator. Evidence suggested a turbulent history in their relationship. Adams was apprehended later the same day near his home in Waldorf, Maryland, by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Following his capture, Jonah Adams was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Kaelyn Parson, JoAnna Cottle, and their two young children. The community was left to mourn the profound loss of a family, and the legal process began to seek justice for the four lives that were so senselessly taken.
