In the quiet early morning hours of November 18, 2022, a sense of unease settled over a home on Laurel Oak Road in Chesterfield County, Virginia, just south of Richmond. Inside, 39-year-old JoAnna Marie Cottle, a White female, was about to face a tragic end to her life. A frantic 911 call was made by JoAnna reporting a suspicious person lurking outside her residence. While on the line with dispatchers, the situation escalated horrifically as the intruder made entry into her home.
The dispatcher heard gunshots before the line went silent.
Responding officers arrived at a scene of unimaginable horror. JoAnna and her three children, 13-year-old Kaelyn Parson, and 4-year-old twins, Kinsey and Jayson Cottle, were found shot to death inside their home. The devastating event sent shockwaves through the community and left friends and family grappling with an immense loss. JoAnna was remembered as having a huge heart and a deep love for her family, while her children were described as bright and creative.
The investigation swiftly identified a primary suspect: 35-year-old Jonah L. Adams, a Navy veteran and JoAnna's ex-boyfriend. He was the father of the twin children, Kinsey and Jayson.
