A bright smile that could light up any room was tragically extinguished on February 20, 2016, when Marquetta Yvonne Harris was killed in Richmond, Virginia. A vibrant 39-year-old woman, she was known by her loved ones as 'Quetta'. Her life was cut short by an act of gun violence that also claimed the life of 40-year-old Cory J. Holmes.
Born in Richmond on November 11, 1976, Marquetta was a product of the Richmond Public School system and was a dedicated employee at Direct Mail Solutions.
Her infectious personality and cheerful nature left a lasting impression on those she met, both in her hometown and during her time in Kentucky. She was a cherished mother, daughter, and friend whose sudden departure left a void in the hearts of many.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, the Richmond Police Department identified a suspect in the Chamberlayne Avenue shooting. The individual later turned himself in to the authorities. He would go on to plead guilty to the murders of both Marquetta Yvonne Harris and Cory J. Holmes.
