In the summer of 2014, a violent encounter on a Trenton, New Jersey street tragically ended the life of Tyshawn Goodman. A Black male, Goodman was just 25 years old at the time of his death on July 30, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of Trenton and was educated in the city's public school system.
On that Wednesday evening, at approximately 9:39 p.m., Goodman and a 20-year-old companion had just exited a vehicle at the corner of Rosemont and Hoffman avenues.
They were suddenly approached by three men who attempted to rob them at gunpoint. During the confrontation, both Goodman and his companion were shot. When police arrived at the scene, they found Goodman lying wounded. He was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His companion survived the attack and was reported to be in stable condition.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office immediately launched an investigation into the deadly shooting and robbery. Authorities announced they were actively searching for the three suspects involved in the incident. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, no arrests were made, and the investigation remained ongoing. The community mourned the loss of the young man, remembering him as a beloved member of his family and community.
