In the early morning hours of October 30, 2021, the life of 41-year-old Dartanian Ames II, a Black male from Lawrence, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. At approximately 3:25 a.m., the sound of multiple gunshots pierced the quiet of the 900 block of Brunswick Avenue in Trenton. When police officers arrived at the scene, alerted by a ShotSpotter activation, they discovered Ames suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were promptly dispatched, and Ames was
rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force, in conjunction with the Trenton Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
A lifelong resident of the Trenton area, Ames was born on March 23, 1980. He had attended local schools, graduating from Lawrence Township High School, and had worked various jobs, including in construction and most recently at Home Depot. He was a father and was remembered for his love of sports, music, and spending time with his daughter.
As the investigation into his death progressed, authorities confirmed that Ames had been shot multiple times. However, despite the ongoing efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The case remains an active and open investigation, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends who continue to await justice.
