On a cold February evening, the city of Trenton was shaken by a burst of violence that claimed the life of 25-year-old Khalil Griffin-Gibbs. The shooting unfolded on February 22, 2021, at a Sunoco service station on Sanhican Drive, a scene that would soon be swarming with law enforcement. Griffin-Gibbs, a resident of West Windsor and a 2014 graduate of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South where he had played varsity basketball, had sustained a gunshot wound to his torso. A second victim, a 20-year-old man from Trenton, was also struck by gunfire, suffering a wound to his face. He was hospitalized for his injuries.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, in conjunction with the Trenton Police Shooting Response Team, launched a thorough investigation into the tragic event. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the death of Khalil Griffin-Gibbs and the wounding of the other young man.
