In the early evening of Sunday, December 22, 2024, a sense of normalcy was shattered in Trenton, New Jersey, by an act of violence that would claim the life of Shakeem Lemach Davis, a 32-year-old male resident of the city. At approximately 5:51 p.m., the Trenton police were urgently dispatched to the 100 block of South Cook Avenue following multiple reports of a shooting.
The chaotic scene led them to the E&J Deli Grocery, a local neighborhood store that had just become the backdrop for a tragedy.
Inside the deli, officers discovered Davis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Shakeem Lemach Davis succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force, in conjunction with the Trenton Police Department, promptly launched an investigation into the shooting, signaling the beginning of a search for those responsible for this violent act.
The investigation led authorities to a suspect in New York. On January 7, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 33-year-old Sean Wilkerson of Brooklyn, New York. Following his arrest, Wilkerson was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree felony murder, second-degree attempted kidnapping, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office announced their intention to file a motion to detain Wilkerson pending his trial, marking a significant development in the quest for justice for the death of Shakeem Lemach Davis. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
