Javier Morales, a 40-year-old male resident of Trenton, New Jersey, was fatally shot on the afternoon of Thursday, May 2, 2019. The incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. in the vicinity of Hudson and Pearl streets. Trenton police responded to a report of shots fired and discovered Morales at the scene, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the
death of Javier Morales was conducted by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 23-year-old Iziah Perkins of Monmouth Street in Trenton. On Friday, May 10, 2019, Perkins was apprehended at a Trenton apartment by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Following his arrest, Iziah Perkins was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was subsequently held at the Mercer County Correction Center to await a detention hearing.
