In the quiet, early hours of May 17, 2023, a confrontation in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, ended in the tragic death of 28-year-old Matthew T. Morales. The male victim, from Blackwood, New Jersey, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 4900 block of South Broad Street shortly after 1 a.m. Despite being rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Morales succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The events leading to the fatal shooting reportedly began with an
earlier robbery. Morales was attempting to recover stolen items when an altercation broke out. It was during this dispute that he was shot. The incident drew a swift response from law enforcement, with the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Hamilton Police Division launching an investigation into the killing.
Their efforts quickly led to a suspect. The day after the shooting, 18-year-old Joshua Davis of Fieldsboro was arrested in Mount Laurel. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and two second-degree weapons offenses in connection with the death of Matthew Morales.
