On a summer evening in East Orange, New Jersey, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Ahmad Mahir Crudup, a 22-year-old male from Maplewood, was shot and killed on Sunday, July 5, 2015. The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. on the 200 block of South Clinton Street, a scene that would soon be swarmed by law enforcement.
That night, gunshots shattered the neighborhood's calm, prompting calls to the East Orange Police Department.
When officers arrived, they discovered a chaotic scene with four men having been struck by bullets. All four victims were rushed to University Hospital in Newark for medical attention. While three of the men, all in their early twenties, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Crudup's wounds proved to be fatal. He was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m. at the hospital.
