On June 1, 2023, at approximately 2:44 p.m., East Orange police responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Steuben Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 39-year-old Omar Johnson-Pilgrim of Newark inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m.
