On the evening of September 7, 2016, in Newark, New Jersey, a 29-year-old Black/African American male named Deshaun Judson was fatally shot in the city's West Ward. Responding to reports of gunfire at approximately 7:50 p.m., Newark police officers discovered Judson unresponsive with gunshot wounds outside a residence on the 100 block of Kenmore Avenue.
Emergency services transported Judson to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:34 p.m.
The cause of death was determined to be a bullet wound to the head. At the time of his death, Deshaun Judson was a beloved fiancé and father, cherished by his family and friends.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Police Department's Homicide Task Force immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
