In the early morning hours of September 11, 2018, a resident of East Orange, New Jersey, Cory M. Munford, a 40-year-old Black male, was found fatally wounded in Newark's West Ward. The incident unfolded around 7:27 a.m. when Newark police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Sanford and Finlay Place following a report of a shooting.
