In the late hours of a Sunday summer evening in Newark, New Jersey, a house party turned into a scene of tragedy, forever altering the lives of those present. On June 30, 2019, Jaheem White, a 17-year-old male, was fatally shot while at a gathering on Schley Street. The sound of gunfire pierced the night around 11:17 p.m., prompting immediate calls to law enforcement.
Upon their arrival, Newark police officers discovered a chaotic scene and found Jaheem inside the residence, suffering
from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were quickly dispatched and transported him to University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Jaheem White was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m., less than half an hour after the shooting occurred.
In the wake of the tragic event, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Newark Department of Public Safety, launched a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for Jaheem's death. At the time, no information regarding a suspect or any potential arrests was released to the public as the investigation remained active and ongoing.
