On a summer evening in Newark, New Jersey, tragedy struck the city's West Ward. Jonathan R. Toledo-Key, a 29-year-old Black / African American male, was found with an apparent gunshot wound on Sunset Avenue on August 6, 2019. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 6:00 p.m., but it was too late. Toledo-Key was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force immediately launched an investigation into
the fatal shooting. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest, urging witnesses to come forward. However, despite these efforts, the case grew cold. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jonathan Toledo-Key, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
