In the winter of 2016, a burst of violence on a Newark street claimed the life of Sean L. Scott, a 28-year-old man from the city. On the night of Sunday, January 31st, police were called to the 600 block of 18th Street where they discovered Scott suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene just before midnight, becoming another victim of the city's ongoing struggles with gun violence.
