In the evening of January 15, 2020, a young man named Marquis Forman, a 27-year-old male from East Orange, was shot in Newark, New Jersey. The incident occurred around 7:42 p.m. on the 700-block of Springfield Avenue. When Newark Police officers arrived at the scene, they found Forman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders quickly transported him to University Hospital for medical attention. Despite their efforts, Marquis Forman was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m.
that same evening.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities began an investigation into the homicide. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is actively investigating the incident. The suspects were reportedly seen fleeing the area, heading south on South 20th Street toward Avon Avenue in a silver Caravan. A reward of up to $5,000 has been offered by the Essex County Sheriff's Crime Stoppers Program for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for Forman's death. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public.
