Nathan Adcock, a 25-year-old male, was fatally shot in the 100 block of North First Street. The incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m., prompting a response from Pleasantville police who discovered Adcock with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the AtlantiCare Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he was pronounced dead.
Adcock was a father of two and a product of the Pleasantville public school system, remembered as an avid reader and a passionate fan of the Eagles.
The investigation into the shooting was a collaborative effort between the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the Pleasantville Police Department. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the killing. In the months following the incident, authorities continued to pursue leads and gather evidence. A significant breakthrough in the case came on November 6, 2020, when Teddy Smith, a 39-year-old man from Philadelphia, was arrested. Detectives took Smith into custody at a parole office in Philadelphia. He was subsequently charged with murder and weapons offenses in connection with Nathan Adcock's death. Following his arrest, an Atlantic County grand jury indicted Smith in August 2021 on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. The arrest and indictment were the culmination of a cooperative investigation that also involved Philadelphia Parole and the Philadelphia Police Fugitive Homicide Unit.
