In the early evening of a winter day in Pleasantville, New Jersey, the sound of gunfire shattered the calm. On December 2, 2017, just before 7 p.m., a violent encounter unfolded on the 600 block of Tilton Road. When the chaos subsided, three people had been struck by bullets. Among them was 29-year-old Josue Demosthenes, a male resident of Pleasantville.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a grim situation.
Demosthenes, suffering from serious gunshot wounds, was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Two other individuals, a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were also wounded in the shooting. They were transported to the same medical facility for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, and they were listed in stable condition.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the death of Josue Demosthenes and the wounding of two others. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in connection with the case, leaving a lingering sense of unresolved justice for a life cut tragically short.
