On January 18, 2025, 17-year-old male Cayden Morgan Casanova was fatally shot in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Hollow Creek Circle in the University City area. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after 4:00 p.m., where they found Casanova suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to provide medical assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities identified two juvenile
suspects in connection with the homicide. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department obtained warrants for their arrest, charging them with murder, felony conspiracy, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and armed robbery. The suspects were apprehended in Lee County, South Carolina, on March 14, 2025, by CMPD's Violent Crime Apprehension Team the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Lee County Sheriff's Office. They were taken into custody on outstanding warrants and are currently awaiting extradition to Charlotte.
Casanova's next of kin has been notified of these developments. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses. CMPD has urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the case.
