In the early morning hours of October 9, 2023, the life of 45-year-old Mamadou Toure was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Pleasantville, New Jersey. The male victim was discovered unresponsive in a driveway in the vicinity of 7 West Pleasant Avenue at approximately 8:41 a.m., suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, and Toure was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced deceased. The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Pleasantville Police Department, immediately launched a cooperative investigation into the homicide.
For a period, no arrests were made, and authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of a suspect. The investigation progressed, and on December 1, 2023, Jerome Holley, a 41-year-old man from Absecon, was charged with the murder of Mamadou Toure.
Subsequently, on February 6, 2024, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Holley on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, second-degree possession of a handgun without a permit to carry, and second-degree certain persons not to possess firearms. Following the indictment, Holley was detained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility to await trial.
