In the early morning hours of April 15, 2021, the life of 22-year-old Kaheem Carter was tragically cut short. A lifelong resident of Trenton, New Jersey, Carter was found unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in Cunningham Alley, near the intersection of South Walter Avenue. The call of shots fired brought Trenton police to the scene at approximately 1:50 a.m.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Carter was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the death of the male victim, affectionately known as 'Kah,' was swiftly undertaken by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force. Detectives canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses, uncovering crucial video surveillance footage from around the time of the murder. This footage revealed two individuals in the vicinity just before the shooting, who were then seen running from the scene. Thirteen. 40 caliber shell casings were recovered nearby. Also found was a large black garbage bag filled with clothing and sneakers that matched what Carter had been wearing.
Through a combination of witness interviews and a thorough review of the video evidence, investigators were able to identify three suspects. The surveillance footage also captured a silver 2007 Mercury Montego circling the area of Cuyler Avenue and Cunningham Alley prior to the incident. The vehicle was registered to one of the men who would soon be charged with Carter's murder. On May 3, 2021, authorities announced the arrests of Isaiah Ellis, 19, Emmitt Littles, 24, and Isaiah Porter, 25, all residents of Trenton. The arrests were made by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, with Ellis and Littles apprehended in Trenton and Porter located and taken into custody in Brooklyn, New York. All three men face charges of murder, accomplice liability, and weapons offenses.
