On a summer evening in Trenton, New Jersey, the life of Jermaine Austin, a 37-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On July 31, 2017, at approximately 10:05 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 1158 East State Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Austin lying on the sidewalk, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was
pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The incident was ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Trenton Police Department and the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.
In the years following the shooting, details about a suspect or any potential motive have not been publicly released. As of an August 2018 report from the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, the case of Jermaine Austin's murder remains unsolved. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made in connection with his death.
