In a moment of street violence that would ultimately prove fatal, Zaire Gibbs, a 25-year-old Black man from Trenton, New Jersey, was shot on June 1, 2016. The incident occurred in the first block of Washington Street in Trenton. He was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day, June 2, 2016. Gibbs was remembered as a young man active in his community, having worked with the Boys and Girls Club in Trenton.
