On a spring afternoon in Newark, New Jersey, a young man's life was abruptly cut short by violence. Charles Anthony Pridgen, Jr., a 28-year-old Black male, was in the 100 block of Blum Street in the city's Central Ward on May 21, 2021, when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 3:43 PM, a time when the neighborhood was likely filled with the sounds of a typical Friday afternoon.
