In a tragic incident on March 7, 2022, 30-year-old Frankie Fields of Newark, New Jersey, was fatally shot in the city's West Ward. The shooting occurred on the 300 block of 10th Street, where two other males were also injured by gunfire. All three victims were transported to University Hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Frankie Fields was pronounced dead at 1:54 p.m. at the hospital.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the shooting.
Following the investigation, authorities arrested Deandre Smith, a 36-year-old resident of Newark, in connection with the fatal shooting. Smith was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm for an illegal purpose, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Both Fields and the accused were residents of Newark. The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
