On a cold evening in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 36-year-old Raheem Jenkins, a Black male, was abruptly ended. On February 7, 2017, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Jenkins was fatally shot near 30 Coeyman Street in the city's North Ward. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Jenkins was pronounced dead from his injuries. The incident was quickly determined to be a homicide, prompting an immediate and intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
