Felix Rosario, a 55-year-old male, was working as the manager of Dalbert Grocery Store on West Runyon Street in Newark, New Jersey, on the morning of October 18, 2016. At approximately 9 a.m., as he and his son were opening the family bodega, a man walked into the shop, shot Rosario, and then fled the scene. Emergency services were called, and Rosario was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:16 a.m.
The investigation into the shooting was a joint effort
by the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force. Initially, authorities had not identified any suspects and made no arrests. Relatives reported to the media that two men had entered the store, looked around, and left shortly before the shooting. They said the men returned a short time later, at which point one of them shot Rosario.
A suspect, 24-year-old Joshua Choice of Newark, was identified in connection with the fatal shooting. On October 20, 2016, members of the FBI Fugitive Task Force and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office arrested Choice in the Bronx, New York. He was charged with murder, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a handgun. His bail was set at $750,000. While an arrest was made, officials did not immediately release a motive for the shooting.
