In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Newark, New Jersey, the life of Abdul Crowley, a 23-year-old man, was tragically cut short. On August 30, 2022, at approximately 12:50 a.m., violence erupted on the 100 block of Mitchell Place in a hail of gunfire. When Newark Police arrived at the scene, they found Crowley suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency services rushed him to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m. The shooting, which shattered the late-summer night, also left two other individuals, a male and a female, wounded. They were also transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with detectives from the Newark Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
