In the early morning hours of Friday, September 26, 2025, the city of Newark was rattled by a series of violent events. In the West Ward, a ShotSpotter alert drew Newark Police to the vicinity of Halsted Street and Norwood Place at approximately 2:36 a.m. There, in front of a residence on Smith Street, officers discovered a grim scene. Inside a Honda Fit, a young man had been shot in the head.
