In the spring of 2019, the city of Newark, New Jersey, lost a beloved member of its community. Tyshawn Christian, a 25-year-old Black man, was a well-known local figure, not only for his talent as a rapper who went by the stage name Tik Millie, but also as a standout pitcher for the Newark Astros, an amateur baseball team. His life, however, was tragically cut short on the evening of May 5, 2019.
