On a Tuesday night in Vineland, New Jersey, the sound of gunshots shattered the evening calm. Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Landis Avenue at approximately 10:21 p.m. on December 20, 2022, where they discovered the body of a man who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 35-year-old Russell Workman, a male resident of Sewell.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to a suspect, Desmond L. Scarbrough-Brown, a 28-year-old from Vineland. Surveillance footage reportedly captured an interaction between Workman and a man believed to be Scarbrough-Brown.
The footage allegedly shows the suspect drawing a weapon and shooting Workman as he was walking away.
Just days after the incident, on December 23, 2022, Scarbrough-Brown was arrested and subsequently charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was then booked into the Cumberland County Jail. In March of the following year, a grand jury indicted Scarbrough-Brown in connection with the killing of Russell Workman.
