In the early morning hours of September 16, 2017, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace outside a sports bar in Buena Borough, New Jersey, leaving two people dead. One of the victims was Damon A. Jones, a 34-year-old male from Bridgeton. Jones and a companion, 23-year-old Talisa Colon of Vineland, were found inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the MVP Sports Bar on Wheat Road. Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was reported to the Buena Borough Police Department at approximately 1:19 a.m. after a 911 call about shots being fired.
The investigation into the double homicide was launched by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, in cooperation with several other local and state law enforcement agencies. Autopsies confirmed that both Jones and Colon died as a result of the gunshot wounds.
In the months and years that followed, detectives have pursued numerous leads in their search for those responsible.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Damon Jones and Talisa Colon. Authorities have, however, identified a vehicle of interest that was captured on surveillance video and is believed to be linked to the killings. The vehicle is described as a newer model, dark-colored Chrysler or Dodge minivan. Law enforcement has publicly appealed for assistance in identifying the minivan and its occupants, believing that there are witnesses who could provide crucial information to solve the case. A cash reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for this violent act.
