In the spring of 1990, a tragic event unfolded in a house on St. Aubin Street in Detroit, forever altering the lives of several families. On the evening of April 4th, Robert Lee Hill, a 15-year-old male, found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was one of six individuals who lost their lives in a brutal mass murder that stemmed from a planned robbery of a reputed crack house. The other victims were identified as 16-year-old Bobby Lee Frazier, 21-year-old Carl D.
Williams, 18-year-old LeVon Robinson, 22-year-old Rodney Lamarr Lewis, and 32-year-old Steven Owens.
The plot was set in motion by an 18-year-old named Tamara Marie Marshall, the former girlfriend of Steven Owens, who operated the drug house. Marshall, along with 19-year-old Jamal Latif Biggs, 20-year-old Mark Bell, and another individual named Marc Caison, planned to rob the establishment. Their goal was to make off with cash and drugs. The robbery took a violent turn, resulting in the shooting deaths of five of the victims inside the house. LeVon Robinson arrived at the scene after the initial onslaught and was subsequently taken to the basement and shot. The assailants managed to get away with less than $2,000, some cocaine, and various personal items.
The investigation that followed the horrific discovery of the six bodies led to the apprehension of the key figures involved. Tamara Marie Marshall, Jamal Latif Biggs, and Mark Bell were arrested and faced a series of serious charges for their roles in the massacre. A fourth suspect, Marc Caison, was also implicated in the crime.
The subsequent legal proceedings brought the grim details of the crime to light. Tamara Marie Marshall was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Owens, Frazier, and Lewis. She was also convicted of two counts of second-degree murder in the slayings of Williams and Robert Lee Hill. Additionally, she was found to be an accessory in the murder of LeVon Robinson. Jamal Latif Biggs was convicted of first-degree felony murder in connection with Robinson's death and second-degree murder for the other five victims. Mark Bell was also convicted of first-degree murder. All three received mandatory sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole, ensuring they would not be able to inflict such harm on the community again. The trial for the fourth defendant, Marc Caison, was scheduled to take place separately. During the trial, the prosecution painted a picture of Marshall as the mastermind behind the deadly robbery, alleging that she had personally shot her ex-boyfriend and ordered the deaths of the others to ensure there would be no witnesses to their crimes.
