On a cold December day in Detroit, Michigan, the life of 23-year-old Shawn Phillip Bandy, a dedicated police officer with four years of service, was tragically cut short. On Saturday, December 5, 1998, Officer Bandy and his fellow officers were engaged in a perilous pursuit, attempting to stop a van linked to an abduction that had occurred earlier in the day.
