In the early hours of May 21, 2020, a tragedy unfolded in a home on Birwood Street in Detroit, Michigan, forever altering the lives of a family. Four-year-old Nathanial Mesiah Roby-Townsend, a young Black boy described as jolly and full of life, was awake for a late-night snack. As he walked toward the back of the house where other children were, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the night.
