In the early hours of July 5th, a Fourth of July block party on Cherrylawn Street on Detroit's west side turned into a scene of tragedy. Jordan Thornhill, a 23-year-old recent graduate of Michigan State University, was fatally shot at approximately 12:50 a.m. Thornhill, a beloved son and brother, had a promising future ahead of him and was known for his vibrant spirit. He was at the party with friends and fraternity brothers to celebrate the holiday.
The joyful atmosphere of the block party was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Jordan's younger brother, Chandler, was on the phone with him at the time and tragically heard the shots that took his brother's life. When he arrived at the scene, he found his brother fatally wounded. Friends who were with Jordan described the chaos as shots were fired, and they were trying to leave the party. One friend had to identify his body at the scene.
The Detroit Police Department is actively investigating the homicide and has appealed to the public for information. It is believed that the fatal shot may have been the result of celebratory gunfire, as evidence suggests multiple firearms were discharged at the party. As of now, no arrests have been made, and police have not identified any specific suspects. A reward of $25,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in the case. Jordan's family, including his father Andre Thornhill, has made public pleas for witnesses to come forward to bring justice for their son.
