In a senseless act of violence that stemmed from a dispute on social media, 15-year-old Robert Harris was shot and killed at a gas station on Detroit's east side. The tragic events unfolded when Harris and his 14-year-old brother went to the gas station to buy snacks. His mother believes that a selfie posted on social media inadvertently revealed their location to individuals with whom her son had a previous altercation.
Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the chilling moments of the attack. According to reports, another teenager, the same age as Robert, confronted him inside the store. Rather than a fistfight, the situation escalated dramatically when the other teen produced a gun. In what was described as a callous act, the assailant's gun jammed multiple times, yet he continued to rack it and fire at Harris. Robert died in his younger brother's arms.
In the wake of the shooting, the Detroit Police Department launched an investigation and identified 16-year-old Mehki Green as a person of interest. Thanks to tips from the community, a 16-year-old suspect was later arrested in connection with the murder of Robert Harris. Authorities also indicated that anyone found to have assisted the suspect in hiding could potentially face charges.
