In the early morning hours in Detroit, Michigan, the life of 24-year-old Mylin Jenkins was tragically cut short. Jenkins was seated in the driver's seat of a car on Steel Street when he was fatally shot in the head. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in a neighborhood situated just west of the Lodge Freeway.
The alleged perpetrator, 17-year-old Devin Simms, was reportedly sitting in the rear passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
After the fatal shot was fired, Simms is said to have removed Jenkins's body from the car and driven away from the scene. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public.
Later that same day, investigators received a tip that led them to a home on Ohio Street where Simms was hiding. When officers arrived, Simms barricaded himself inside the residence, resulting in a police standoff that lasted for more than two hours. Ultimately, Simms surrendered to the police and was taken into custody without further incident.
Following his arrest, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged Devin Simms with felony murder, carjacking, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and felony firearm. He was expected to be arraigned in court to face these charges in connection with the death of Mylin Jenkins.
