Jaron Gist, a 24-year-old African-American man, was fatally shot on the morning of July 31, 2012, in a violent episode that unfolded at the Visible Change barber shop on Detroit's west side. Gist, a business student at Henry Ford Community College, was reportedly outside the barbershop located at the intersection of Joy and Dexter Roads when a suspect began firing at him around 10:30 a.m.
