In the late hours of a Thursday night in Detroit, a verbal dispute tragically escalated, claiming the life of 52-year-old Albert Williams. On February 24, 2022, inside a building on Greenfield Road, an argument broke out between Williams and two other men. The disagreement took a fatal turn when one of the men produced a handgun and shot Williams multiple times. The assailants then robbed the dying man before making their escape.
Responding to a call about the shooting, Detroit police officers discovered Williams in a doorway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived at the scene but were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of Albert Williams quickly led to the identification and arrest of two suspects: Delron Devall Black Jr., 28, and Kenneth Cecil Daniel, 30, both from Detroit. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought serious charges against both men. Black was charged with felony murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of felony firearm. Daniel faced charges of felony murder and armed robbery. Both men were arraigned and held on a $1 million bond, with the condition of a GPS tether if they were to be released. Their initial court appearance was scheduled for March 10, 2022, at the 36th District Court. In a significant turn of events, the charges against Kenneth Cecil Daniel were dismissed in March 2024, for reasons not publicly detailed.
