In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 18, 2017, the life of 59-year-old Jawwaad Akbar was tragically cut short in his home on Detroit's northwest side. The Detroit Fire Department was summoned to extinguish a blaze at a residence on the 22400 block of Santa Maria Street, between Grand River and McNichols. After the flames were put out, at approximately 8:45 a.m., first responders made a grim discovery inside the home.
