Jawwaad Akbar, aged 59, was murdered on July 18, 2017, on Detroit's northwest side. His body was discovered after emergency services responded to a house fire on the 22400 block of Santa Maria Street, near Grand River and McNichols. Upon extinguishing the fire, authorities found that Akbar had been shot multiple times prior to the fire, suggesting that the fire may have been set intentionally to cover up the crime.
