In the early hours of March 4, 2017, a dispute at a Marathon gas station on Grand River Avenue in Detroit tragically ended the life of 31-year-old Pap Robinson Jenkins. A Black/African American male, Jenkins was at the gas station with his girlfriend, Starr K. Holmes, when an argument broke out between them around 2:45 a.m.
The disagreement reportedly began when Jenkins would not return some of Holmes's personal items. The situation escalated, leading to a violent confrontation.
Holmes later claimed that Jenkins had tried to run her over with his vehicle, causing her to fear for her life and shoot him in self-defense. Jenkins was transported to Grace Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, Starr Holmes was arrested and faced serious charges: second-degree murder and felony firearm possession. Her attorney argued that her actions were a justifiable act of self-defense. Despite this plea, Holmes was initially denied bond and held in the county jail. However, in a significant turn of events, a judge later dismissed the case against her, ruling that she had acted in self-defense. Following the dismissal, the prosecutor's office was reportedly considering an appeal of the judge's decision.
