In what began as a seemingly straightforward transaction for motorcycle parts, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a deadly setup. Hassan Deaibes, a 24-year-old male from Dearborn, Michigan, was fatally shot on May 17, 2015, during an armed robbery on the west side of Detroit. The incident was set in motion when Deaibes, needing to repair his motorcycle after a recent car accident, responded to a Craigslist advertisement for parts.
He and his uncle drove to the initial meeting point at Warren and Evergreen, only to be redirected by the sellers to a new location near Joy Road and Evergreen.
Upon their arrival at the quieter, secondary location, their vehicle was ambushed by three armed individuals. Two of the assailants entered the back seat of the car while the third remained outside, demanding money from Deaibes and his uncle. After Deaibes handed over the $300 he had on him, one of the men shot him in the head. The three suspects then fled the scene. Deaibes's uncle, who was physically unharmed, immediately drove away and managed to flag down a passing ambulance. Deaibes was rushed to Sinai Grace Hospital and placed on life support, but he succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following day, May 18, 2015.
The investigation into the homicide led to the apprehension of three male suspects. According to reports, police were able to track down one of the individuals involved, who then implicated the other two. The suspects were identified as two 16-year-olds and one man in his 20s. The arrests brought a measure of resolution to the tragic and senseless death of a young man who was simply trying to get his motorcycle back on the road.
