In the early hours of June 8, 2017, the life of 28-year-old Dominique Deshawn Lee, a Black male from Ypsilanti Township, Michigan, was tragically cut short. At approximately 2:45 a.m., authorities responded to a call reporting gunshots and a vehicle crash at the Sauk Trail Pointe housing complex on West Michigan Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Lee inside a Chevy Trax that had crashed into a building. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. It appeared Lee was attempting to leave the parking lot when he was shot. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the homicide led by the Ypsilanti police department resulted in the identification and arrest of two individuals. Rico M. Chandler, 42, and Marcus Walker were taken into custody in connection with Lee's death. In December 2017, Chandler was arraigned on charges related to the fatal shooting.
Marcus Walker also faced charges for his alleged involvement in the homicide. His legal proceedings included a probable cause conference in October 2017 and a final pretrial hearing in November 2018 at the Washtenaw County Trial Court. The cases against both men moved through the court system, highlighting the community's call for justice for the violent end to Dominique Lee's life.
