Lawrence Leon Gordon, aged 46, was found dead on October 3, 1978, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. His death was a result of a robbery-slaying committed by Billy Edward Hardesty, a 24-year-old Michigan drifter. Gordon's nude body was discovered hanging by a leather strap from a doorknob in his shared West Hollywood apartment. This gruesome discovery marked the beginning of a series of violent crimes committed by Hardesty.
