In the autumn of 1978, a wave of violence descended upon Ypsilanti, Michigan, beginning with the death of Lawrence Leon Gordon. A white male, Gordon was the first victim in a string of brutal killings carried out by his own roommate, William 'Billy' Edward Hardesty. On October 3, 1978, Hardesty took Gordon's life within the confines of their shared home.
