On the afternoon of New Year's Eve in 2017, a tragic event unfolded in Ypsilanti, Michigan, that cut short the life of Kevin Clay Hughbanks. A 50-year-old Black male, Hughbanks was fatally shot in what appeared to be a random act of violence. The incident occurred around noon at the Cliffs Communities apartment complex located off of Grove Road, disrupting the holiday with the sound of gunfire and the arrival of law enforcement.
