Valarie Denice Wright, a 51-year-old female, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018, in Saginaw, Michigan. Born in Saginaw on June 4, 1966, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. For twenty-six years, she was a dedicated employee with the Saginaw Intermediate School District's Head Start program.
On that tragic day, Valarie was fatally shot at a motel in Saginaw. The events leading to her death involved a dispute with her husband of twenty-nine years, Troy Lee Wright, Sr. Earlier in the evening, Troy Wright had confronted his wife and another man at the motel. Following this confrontation, as Valarie and the other individual were driving away, they realized Troy Wright was following them, prompting a call to 911 where she reported that he had a gun. Troy Wright also contacted 911, claiming his wife was being held hostage.
Later that morning, Troy Wright returned to the motel and fired blindly into the room his wife was in, resulting in her death. He was subsequently arrested and faced multiple charges. A jury convicted Troy Lee Wright of second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and three counts of felony-firearm.
