Chasity Tacquiana Jackson, a 38-year-old Black woman and registered nurse, was a devoted mother to five children in Saginaw, Michigan. Described by her aunt as a "beautiful soul," she was known for her dedication to her family and her work as a caregiver. Her life was a testament to her nurturing spirit, which she extended to her children, family, and patients.
On the morning of March 28, 2024, that life was violently ended in her home in the 3500 block of Studor Road in Bridgeport
Township. Police responded to the residence shortly before 8 a.m. after one of Jackson’s children called 911 to report that their mother had been shot. Officers arrived to find Jackson deceased from gunshot wounds. Her 17-year-old son was also found with a gunshot wound to his abdomen; he had been shot while trying to shield his mother. The teenager was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition for surgery. Jackson’s younger children, including one as young as two, were also in the home but were not physically harmed.
Investigators quickly identified Jackson’s estranged husband, 42-year-old Bryant Anthony Brown, as the suspect. Jackson had recently asked Brown for a divorce, and a court order was in place requiring him to stay away from the home. After the shooting, Brown fled the scene, prompting a multi-state search. Around 11:30 a.m. the same day, U.S. Marshals and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers located Brown’s vehicle traveling south on I-75 in Wood County, Ohio. They initiated a traffic stop, and Brown was taken into custody without incident.
Brown was extradited back to Michigan to face charges in Saginaw County. He was charged with open murder, assault with intent to cause great bodily harm for the shooting of his stepson, and numerous weapons offenses. During a preliminary hearing, the 17-year-old son, who was continuing to recover from his injuries, testified against Brown. A judge determined there was enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
In October 2024, a Saginaw County jury convicted Bryant Brown, then 44, of first-degree premeditated murder in the death of Chasity Jackson. The jury also found him guilty on 11 other counts, including assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, illegal possession of a firearm, and multiple counts of using a firearm during a felony. Brown faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
