In the late hours of a tragic Friday in Saginaw, Michigan, the life of 26-year-old Moeneisha M. Ross was cut short. On March 1, 2019, Ross, a Black/African American female, was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound inside an apartment on Weiss Street. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries, leaving a community and a loving family to grapple with the sudden and violent loss. At the time of her death, Ross was a mother to three young children and was 18 weeks pregnant with her fourth child, a son she had planned to name Nasir-Asai MoeNay Simmons.
The investigation into her death quickly pointed towards domestic violence. Early the following morning, Saginaw Police apprehended 27-year-old Patrick Allen Martin Jr. in connection with the shooting. Martin was identified as the primary suspect in the homicide of Moeneisha Ross. His arrest brought a small measure of relief to a grieving family faced with the immense task of raising three children who had just lost their mother.
Moeneisha was born and raised in Saginaw, where she attended local schools and later Delta College. She was known for her dedication to her family and her active involvement in her church, the Newer Dimensions Fellowship Ministries, where she shared her gift of singing. She was employed by both Sodexo and Safe Hands Warm Hearts. Her death was a profound loss to those who knew her, a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. The subsequent legal proceedings against Patrick Allen Martin Jr. would bring the painful details of her final moments to the forefront as the justice system sought to hold him accountable for the life he had taken.
